PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - An elderly woman died Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle as she crossed El Cielo Road in Palm Springs, according to police.
The collision near El Cielo and Baristo roads occurred at 3:50 p.m.
Iris Rice, 69, of Palm Springs was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center where she later died due to her injuries, Palm Springs police Sgt. Harvey Reed said.
Authorities identified Rice Wednesday morning after notifying her family.
The driver whose car struck the woman was cooperating with investigators and not believed to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time, he said.
Northbound lanes of El Cielo and southbound lanes of El Cielo Road were
temporarily closed in the area.
