Weekend storms cut power to over 1,000 customers in East Valley

EAST VALLEY, Calif. - Weekend storms knocked out power to over 1,000 customers this weekend, according to the Imperial Irrigation District.

As of Monday, power had been returned to all but about 300 customers.

On Saturday, a storm bringing high winds swept though Mecca near Hays Ave and Grand St, toppling at least 27 power poles in the area. This left 181 customers without power, but electricity has returned to all but 20 customers.

IID says they are working to get a back-up generator to a mobile home park in Mecca to provide temporary power to those customers.

Early Monday morning, another storm moved through the East Valley, this time knocking down 9 power poles behind several homes on Kingston St in Bermuda Dunes. 904 customers lost power, but by 2:40 a.m. power had been restored to all but 284 customers. It is not known when power will be fully restored.
