Suspects enter Indio credit union through roof

Burglary reported at Altura Credit Union in 81000 block of Hwy. 111

INDIO, Calif. - Burglars entered an Indio credit union through the roof Wednesday morning, but nothing appeared to be stolen, police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

Police were called to the Altura Credit Union in the 81000 block of Highway 111 after an alarm triggered around 7:50 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a hole in the ceiling of the business.

According to Guitron, the suspects appear to have used a fire access route leading to the roof before entering the credit union through the hole in the ceiling.

He said credit union employees didn't notice anything missing, but
police were investigating.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 were at the scene on Wednesday. The store was closed temporarily and customers were being directed to the branch in Rancho Mirage, according to a sign placed on the door of the business.

BBVA Compass Bank in Indio was robbed on Tuesday, the latest of several
bank robberies in the city this year.
