Shooting in DHS puts school in lockdown UPDATE

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - Cabot Yerxa Elementary in Desert Hot Springs was in lockdown this morning after a shooting occurred near the area of Tamar and Pierson.

Desert Hot Springs police confirmed there was a shooting incident in the area just after 9 a.m.

As on 10:30 a.m., there are no reports of anyone being shot and police are searching the area for a suspect only described as a white or Hispanic male in his 20's.

We will be updating this story as we learn more about the incident.

UPDATE (10:56 a.m.): Desert Hot Springs police has released this statement: "At 0916 hours this morning officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Tamar and Desert View. It appears as if at least one vehicle was struck. We are holding that vehicle for evidence and we have one person detained. We have not ascertained whether or not the person we have detained is a suspect or a witness. We will send out further information as the investigation allows."
