Rancho Las Palmas being sold to Texas company

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Omni Hotels announced today that it bought the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage and four other properties.

The Irving, Texas-based company said in a statement that it will take over the five facilities from KSL Capital Partners at the beginning of next month. No financial terms were disclosed.

"Each of these properties is unique in its own right -- rich in heritage and distinctive in their elegance and charm," said Mike Deitemeyer, president of the hotel chain.

"We would be fortunate to own and operate any single one of these celebrated resorts," Deiemeyer said. "By purchasing all five of these properties, Omni has significantly enhanced our growing Resort Collection in terms of scope, scale and prestige."

Omni already has a hotel in downtown San Diego.

The other newly purchased properties are La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, the Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C., and The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
