COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. - The low 100s and even the high 90s are considered a cool down for us in the desert. Many people out and about Saturday took advantage of the cooler temperatures.
Pool staff at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center are gearing up for a busy weekend.
"It gets busy; we open at 11:00 a.m. and when the public comes in and they have their lunch in here and they're more than welcome to come back in forth, so we're expecting lots of foot traffic," said lifeguard supervisor Alex Espinosa.
Espinosa said they're busiest on weekends when temps drop to the low 100s.
"I think people like to stay home when its 122. It's a little hot to come out in your car and drive to the pool but when it's cooler people like to lay out, get their tan going, send the kids down the slide when it's a little cooler," said Epinosa.
Others are taking advantage of those Labor Day weekend sales. Able to stroll along El Paseo rather than dashing into air conditioned stores.
"It's not too hot today, it's about 100 degrees, it's not 115 or 120. So it's manageable," said Richard Soohoo who's visiting from Sacramento.
The number of bikes parked outside The Coffee Bean prove people are making the most out of the near perfect weather. No matter whether you're visiting or a local, everyone is thankful for the cool down.
"We started in April with heat and I think we've had maybe two or three days until now that were under a 100 until now. and many over 110 this is not my favorite time of the year," said Keith Irwin from Palm Desert.
"I'm ready for some cooler temperatures. I think everybody is," said Carlos Perez from Coachella.
Labor Day weekend unofficially marks the end of summer, and after the summer we've had, many say it's about time.
