PALM DESERT, Calif. - A Palm Desert man arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run while intoxicated was behind bars today.
Juan Ramiro Lopez, 27, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup south on Monterey Avenue when he crashed into a vehicle stopped at a red light at Parkview Lane about 1:45 p.m. Monday, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Adams said.
Lopez backed up and drove away but was arrested about 2:20 p.m. in a residential area -- at San Pascual Avenue and Fred Waring Drive, he said.
Lopez was booked in Indio and being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Adams said.
The person in the other car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
