Patrick Reed wins Humana Challenge

La Quinta, Calif. - Patrick Reed won the Humana Challenge with an incredible display of golf on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. He did not lose it on Sunday.

"Final round was a lot tougher than the first three rounds, obviously," Reed said. "But I felt great all day.

After shooting three consecutive rounds of 63 for a PGA Tour 54-hole record score of 27-under, Reed played the final 18-holes at 1-under par.

"It felt great not having to either go into a playoff or make birdies down the end to try to close something off," Reed said.

Reed finished at 28-under, two shots in front of Ryan Palmer, who closed with a round of 9-under 63.

"What can you do with what Patrick did this week?" Palmer said. "It's ridiculous what he did.  Amazing how good he played.  It looks like we'll come up a couple short, but it was a win in my game because I was playing for second this week today."

The best round of the day was shot by Zach Johnson. He moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard, finishing three shots back at 25-under, after carding a 62.

"I got red hot at the end," Johnson said. "I played really good early, missed a couple putts, but I made a bunch at the end. So, I guess it probably all evens out.  Yeah, you just can't quit in this game.  That's the bottom line."

Justin Leonard made some early noise in his final round, shooting a 31 on the front nine at the Palmer Private Course at PGA West. But the major championship winner cooled off a bit on the back nine to shoot a 65, finishing in a tie for third with Johnson at 25-under.

Reed was feeling the heat on the back nine. The pressure seemed to lift from him when he rolled in a birdie putt on the par-3 15th hole, stretching his lead to three shots. He finished with three straight pars.

"It means a lot," Reed said. "This is one of our favorite places in the country over here in Palm Springs. We'll definitely be back every year."

The victory is the second on the PGA Tour for the 23-year-old Texan who went to Augusta State University.
