PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Palm Springs police are investigating a shooting near an apartment complex after a man was dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound Saturday night.
Officers from the Palm Springs Police Department were called to Desert Regional Medical Center at midnight regarding the man who was dropped off at the ambulance bay by an unknown vehicle.
When officers arrived, a white man in his twenties was being treated for a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim told officers he had been socializing with several friends in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 3600 Block of N. Sunrise Way when they were approached by four Hispanic men and one black man that they didn't know.
According to the victim, the black man physically assaulted him. While running away the victim was shot in the leg. His friends came to his aid and drove him to the hospital.
The victim required emergency surgery for the gunshot wound which damaged his femoral artery, but he is expected to survive. The suspects were possibly driving a silver newer model SUV and fled the area in an unknown direction after the shooting.
