PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The run-up to Palm Springs Modernism Week will include walking, biking and bus tours of the region's architectural gems, cocktail parties, a lecture and a ``yard sale,'' the executive director announced today.
``Fall Season Kick-Off'' events, scheduled Oct. 11-14, are aimed at priming the pump for the main event in February. Reservations are required, and a full schedule of events is posted at www.modernismweek.com.
Modernism Week is scheduled Feb. 13-23 and celebrates the popular design aesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s.
The fall kick-off starts Oct. 11 with a double-decker bus tour, one of Modernism Week's calling cards.
The Modernism Yard Sale on Oct. 12 will feature vendors that specialize in mid-century items and local homeowners who have ``cleaned out their closets,'' event spokesman Tim O'Bayley said.
On Oct. 12, 13 and 14, people can take bike and walking tours of Mid-Century buildings, inns, celebrity homes and houses designed by well-known architects.
