Palm Springs hosts star studded awards gala

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - KESQ and CBS Local 2 News were live on the Red Carpet at the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.

We interviewed some big-name actors including Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey, Jeremy Renner and Colin Farrell.

We also interviewed U2 as they were set to receive the Sonny Bono Visionary Award for their song 'Long Walk to Freedom' from the movie Mandela.

The following awards were presented at this year's Awards Gala: American Hustle - Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Paul Herman, Jeremy Renner, Elisabeth Rohm and Shea Whigham (Ensemble Performance Award), Sandra Bullock (Desert Palm Achievement Award – Actress), Bruce Dern (Career Achievement Award), Tom Hanks (Chairman's Award), Matthew McConaughey (Desert Palm Achievement Award – Actor), Steve McQueen (Director of the Year Award), Thomas Newman (Frederick Loewe Award for Film Composing), Lupita Nyong'o (Breakthrough Performance Award), Julia Roberts (Spotlight Award, also presenting), Meryl Streep (Icon Award), and U2 - Bono and The Edge (in attendance) (Sonny Bono Visionary Award).

Some big actors were also at the event to present the awards: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Colin Farrell, Jane Fonda, John Lee Hancock, Naomie Harris, Ewan McGregor, Gary Oldman, Margo Martindale, Gena Rowlands, David O. Russell and Alfre Woodard.

Other celebrity guests included:  Amma Asante (Director, Belle – Opening Night Film), Mary Bono, Steve Coogan (Philomena), Jonah Hill, Allison Janney, Byung Hun Lee, Catalina Sandino Moreno (Medeas), Vincent Piazza, Juliet Rylance, Marisa Tomei, Wong Kar Wai (The Grandmaster),   Harvey Weinstein and Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet.
