More weapons found after DUI suspect arrested

23-year-old Jason Loudenslager of Coachella was arrested Thursday morning

PALM DESERT, Calif. - A 23 year old man from Coachella was arrested Thursday morning for DUI, hit and run, and weapons charges after crashing his car in Palm Desert.

According to Palm Desert police, 23-year-old Jason Loudenslager ran from his car after crashing into another vehicle in a parking lot at Washington Street and Country Club Drive.

The incident happened around 8:20 a.m.

Loudenslager and the passenger in his car, Apolonio Veliz, were found a short distance away from the crash.

Authorities said both Loudenslager and Veliz were intoxicated. Veliz received minor injuries from the crash.

Loudenslager was arrested for DUI, hit and run, possession of a short-barreled rifle and possession of a high capacity magazine. Veliz was arrested for public intoxication, deputies said.

Both men were booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Following their arrests, the Coachella Police Department followed up on weapons charges by serving a search warrant at Loudenslager's home in the 84000 block of North Sienna Circle.

During the search, officers found two additional shotguns, two rifles and three handguns. Police are in the process of determining legal ownership of the guns. They expect additional weapons charges will be filed.
