Burglary suspect being sought was already in jail

INDIO, Calif. - A Thousand Palms man already in jail on drug and weapons counts is also suspected of committing residential burglaries in Indian Wells, a sheriff's sergeant said today.

Authorities served a search warrant in La Quinta last month in connection with burglaries in the 45000 block of Indian Wells Lane and the nearby Miramonte Resort, which were reported starting April 30.

As a result of the search, Nathan Madlin, 29, was implicated in the burglaries, authorities said. Several stolen items and firearms were found, sheriff's Sgt. Shaun Myers said.

He said authorities learned Monday that Madlin was in custody -- on unrelated charges -- at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. According to court and jail records, Madlin was arrested last Thursday in Palm Desert and charged Tuesday with possession of controlled substances and carrying a knife, both felonies.

He is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail, and charges of residential burglary, illegal weapons possession, vehicle theft and vehicle burglary will be filed by the Riverside County District Attorney's Office for the Indian Wells crimes, Myers said.

Anyone with information about the alleged crimes was asked to call deputies at (760) 836-1626, or to Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
