NILAND, Calif. - A suspected drug smuggler was arrested Wednesday morning after border patrol agents found more than 2 lbs. of methamphetamine inside the man's truck.
It was the third meth bust by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents within 48 hours at the Indio Station.
Authorities said a 32-year-old U.S. citizen was stopped at the Highway 82 checkpoint at 7:30 a.m. after a K9 alerted agents to his pick up truck. After searching the truck, they found five individually wrapped packages of methamphetamine, along with a glass pipe, inside the center console and the driver-side door.
Agents said the meth weighed 2.64 lbs. and had an estimated street value over $31,680.
The driver was taken into custody and the drugs and truck were turned over to the DEA.
