COACHELLA, Calif. - Two firefighters suffered minor injuries Saturday as a one-acre fire charred about 100 palm trees in the fields of the southern Coachella Valley.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:54 p.m. to Van Buren Street and Avenue 58, an agericultural area about five miles southwest of Coachella.
The firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Fuhrman said. The firefighters were said to have suffered from heat exhaustion as they battled the fire in 113 degree temperatures.
Van Buren Street at Avenue 57 was shut down to traffic as firefighters put out the fire, Fuhrman said.
