BANNING - A wildfire that scorched 125 acres in the hills north of Banning was fully contained late Friday, a Riverside County fire captain said.

No structures were damaged in the blaze, which broke out around 9:30 a.m. Thursday near Mias Canyon and East Fork roads, on the edge of the San Bernardino National Forest.

Riverside County fire Capt. Fernando Herrera said two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries in the early hours of battling the blaze, but were not seriously hurt.

About 150 firefighters, four air tankers, three helicopters and the Martin Mars -- a World War II era water-dropping plane based at Lake Elsinore -- stopped the spread of the flames Thursday afternoon.

The blaze may have started in a makeshift shed, which was destroyed, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
