LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say sheriff's deputies have shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at them following a car chase in Long Beach.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Aura Sierra says 29-year-old Rashad Bolling was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting Saturday night.

Deputies with a gang enforcement unit chased Bolling along Long Beach Boulevard to a freeway onramp, where he pulled out a gun.

Sierra says deputies, believing he was going to shoot them, opened fire.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.
