The "New Girl" is going to Broadway with a huge endorsement from country legend Loretta Lynn.

As the star of that Fox show, 32-year-old Zooey Deschanel, revealed via Twitter Thursday night, "Loretta Lynn asked me to do 'coal miner's daughter' on broadway! I said YES!"

Lynn unveiled the plan to adapt her story for the stage during the Opry Country Classics show at the Ryman Auditorium on Thursday.

"It's a long way from Butcher Holler to Broadway in New York City," Lynn told the audience. "I never imagined I'd see 'Coal Miner's Daughter' on a movie screen, and now I can't believe it's going to be on a stage for people to see."

In 1979, Lynn revealed that she'd picked Sissy Spacek to portray her in the film version of "The Coal Miner's Daughter" at the Grand Ole Opry, and she repeated the tradition by inviting Deschanel on stage Thursday.

"I'm going to sit right there in the front row," Lynn said. "And I know Zooey is going to be great - she sings and writes her own songs just like I do, and we even have the same color eyes!"

According to a statement, the Broadway production will recount Lynn's path to becoming a legend, "from her impoverished Kentucky childhood to her unlikely and triumphant rise to become the First Lady of Country Music and one of the greatest women of her generation."

Deschanel, who performed "The Coal Miner's Daughter" with the country star Thursday, added in a statement that "Lynn and her music have been inspirations for me for as long as I can remember. She is a true legend and to be chosen to play such an iconic woman is a dream come true."
