(CNN) -

We want more of Reese Witherspoon on the big screen, but we're also excited to see what she does behind-the-scenes with a TV adaptation of "Great Expectations."

According to Deadline, the 36-year-old actress and mom of three is executive producing a modern-day take on the Charles Dickens novel, and it's now in development at The CW.

Called "Expectations," the series would focus on a young woman from a small town who dreams of making it in San Francisco, but who swiftly becomes disappointed by what she finds in the big city. That is, until an unknown benefactor comes to her aid.

"Expectations" also isn't the only story The CW is giving a contemporary spin. The network's also developing a modern-day "Alice in Wonderland" as a police drama, with Alice as a detective and Los Angeles serving as her "Wonderland."
