Hollywood besties Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson may have found a home for their new whodunit series.

According to Deadline, HBO (owned by the same parent company as CNN) has picked up the duo's cop drama "True Detective," and is now in the process of finalizing the deal.

The series -- which the two actors will star in, at least for the first season -- sparked a bidding war earlier this month after it was trotted out before some of the top network brass.

But HBO seems to have emerged the victor, ordering a reported eight episodes of the dramatic series to roll out in the coming months.

"True Detective" follows two investigators, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), who cross paths while they are on the hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

Pending the completion of the deal, HBO is reportedly prepared to start production immediately. It helps that they've already got their stars, a director, two written episodes and a "bible" on the baffling murder case at the center of the plot.
