(CNN) -

The "first wave" of nominations for the 2012 Teen Choice Awards are in, and Justin Bieber, "American Idol" and The CW's "Vampire Diaries" lead the pack.

"Idol" and the Biebs have five nods each, while the CW's addictive series featuring a vamp love triangle secured a leading six nominations.

And it's in good company: "Pretty Little Liars," "Gossip Girl," "Supernatural" and "Bones" are all nominated in the TV category, with HBO's "True Blood" also up for several awards, including Choice TV Show. Series star Anna Paquin is also nominated for Choice TV Actress: Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

On the music side, Bieber goes up against an eclectic mix of pop stars, including Drake, Bruno Mars, Pitbull and Blake Shelton for Choice Male Artist.

Among the women, Adele will battle Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Taylor Swift.

And as far as which one of these ladies is the hottest, Katy Perry and Rihanna will compete with Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and model Kate Upton for Choice Female Hottie.

It's also a tough "choice" on the men's side: Bieber is pitted against Ryan Gosling, who's up for several awards, as well as "The Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder, "The Hunger Games'" Liam Hemsworth and "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson.

There aren't many surprises in the top film category: "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1" is up for Choice Movie, as is, of course, "The Hunger Games." Rounding out the list are "The "Avengers," "Mirror Mirror" and "Wrath of the Titans."

Hosts, performers and presenters for the July 22 show are expected to be announced soon, and you can see the full list of nominees at TeenChoiceAwards.com.
