Students take architectural bus tour as part of Modernism Week in Palm Springs
Modernism Week is celebration of the popular design aesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s
Palm Springs Modernism Week is organizing the first Joan Hayward Double-Decker Architectural Bus Tour for local students Wednesday.
Students from local high schools and colleges who are interested in architecture and design will leave at 10 a.m. Wednesday on a two-hour tour of mid-century architecture and landmarks in Palm Springs.
Hayward, the tour's namesake, worked on bus tours for Modernism Week and supported creating a scholarship program for the students. She worked with architects who designed several buildings at Cascade Campus of Portland Community College in Oregon, where she was an administrator, and has a second home in Palm Springs.
Modernism Week is an 11-day celebration of the popular design aesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s and continues through Feb. 24. For information, go to www.modernismweek.com.
