Forum on proposition 37 and genetically modified foods in California
Free forum in Indio sponsored by California Women in Agriculture
The Coachella Valley chapter of California Women for Agriculture will present an educational forum in Indio Thursday about Proposition 37.
The free forum, "What are GMOs and What is Proposition 37 All About?", will begin at 6 p.m. at Heritage Palms clubhouse, 44-291 Heritage Palms Drive South. The scheduled speakers are Alan McHughen, a plant biotechnologist at UC Riverside, Blythe farmer Grant Chaffin and Nancy Madson, co-owner of Seawright Custom Precast in Coachella.
Prop. 37 would require labeling of genetically modified food in California.
McHughen is an expert on environmental and health impacts of modern and traditional food production methods. Chaffin is president of the Riverside County Farm Bureau, and his family farm, Chaffin Farms, grows alfalfa, cotton and wheat on 3,300 acres. Madson co-owns a concrete manufacturing business and serves on the Indio Chamber of Commerce's government affairs and public policy committee.
