Feathered friends or just a feast?
Turkeys not your fuzzy warm pet
Feast? Or family? When the subject is turkeys, it looks like feast wins out most of the time. A study by the National Turkey Federation indicates the majority of the big birds will be found in the center of the holiday dinner table today - rather than frolicking among family members. The numbers bear that out: more than 46 million turkeys end up on the carving plate while just a few hundred get to see Thanksgiving as a pet, not a main course. Susie Coston of the Turkey Rescue Farm Sanctuary notes unless they're roasted and covered with a little gravy, turkeys are not good around the house. They're too messy to hang out indoors - and aren't exactly the warm and fuzzy type.
