LAS VEGAS, NV -

Firefighters from Nevada and California are working to quell a locomotive fire on a Union Pacific Railroad train in the desert town of Nipton.
Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin in Las Vegas says the fire was reported about 5:40 a.m. Monday in the remote town in California's San Bernardino County.
Kulin says seven train cars carrying hazardous material cargo were separated from the burning train engine and weren't immediately reported to be threatened by fire.
As firefighters arrived, smoke was reported from a second train engine.
A railroad spokesman didn't immediately respond to messages.
The site isn't far from the California-Nevada state line. It's on a main Union Pacific rail line between Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
