PALM DESERT, Calif. - -

 Parts of Interstate 10 between Banning and Palm Springs will be closed nightly for pavement work.
   The work will close alternating lanes of I-10 in both directions between Pennsylvania Avenue and Highway 111. It will be done nightly until Saturday, according to Caltrans.

The closure schedule is as follows:

  •    7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, alternating lanes 1 through 4 on eastbound I-10 between Pennsylvania and Hargrave Street;
  •    8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, alternating lanes 1 through 4 on westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania;
  •    7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, alternating onramp and offramp closures on eastbound I-10 between Pennsylvania and Hargrave;
  •    8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, alternating onramp and offramp closures on westbound I-10 between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania.

   In February, a paving miscue by Caltrans resulted in a huge Sunday traffic jam on westbound I-10 between Palm Springs and Banning. The agency apologized and vowed it would not happen again.
