Man Killed While Crossing Street, Palm Canyon Drive Shut Down
Police: Driver May Not Be At Fault
A man who was hit by a truck while walking across North Palm Canyon Drive died before he arrived at a local hospital Thursday morning.
The accident happened at around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Racquet Club, said Sgt. Mike Kovaleff with the Palm Springs Police Department.
Officers arrived to find the man in the roadway with major injuries. Emergency crews took him to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Isuzu panel truck that hit the man stayed at the accident scene, Kovaleff said, and was cooperating with the investigation.
By mid-day, Palm Springs Police Sgt. Paul Abshire said investigators determined the truck was traveling southbound on North Palm Canyon. As it approached the intersection of Racquet Club, the man walked into the street inside the crosswalk.
He said at this point, the truck driver was doing everything he was supposed to do and was not at fault.
