The Riverside County District Attorney's office says the 66-year-old security guard beaten while on duty early Saturday morning in Palm Springs has now died.

Wallace Brown died at Desert Regional Medical Center Wednesday, acccording to Deputy District Attorney Traci Carrillo.

According to the security company's owner Richard Bower, Brown was taken off life support Tuesday and died around 4 PM Wednesday.

Bower says this is a tragic first for Bower Security company -- one of their officers attacked and killed.

"We've never lost anyone," Bower said. "Last year, we lost a couple of officers due to cancer and natural causes, but [Brown's death] is magnified by ten times over that."

Brown was on life support at Desert Regional Medical Center after being dragged and beaten near construction site on El Dorado Boulevard in the early morning hours of June 9th.

"There's no way that training or weapons could've done to change this," Bower told NewsChannel 3. "It really had to do with the fact that you had four evil people seeking to hurt somebody in a severe manner, and they did it."

Four teenagers were arrested in the incident. Police identified them as members of Gateway Posse Crips gang.

Two of the suspects, Darius Lee of Banning and Jamar Thomas of Palm Springs, are both 18. The other two are 17-year-old juveniles -- Jarrett Martell Lewis and Akil Nijee Williams, both of Palm Springs.

On Tuesday, they were charged with attempted murder, robbery, and criminal street gang activity for the attack, and all four will be tried as adults.

The attempted murder charges are expected to be upgraded to murder charges.

The suspects are facing life sentences at the least for the incident. The Deputy District Attorney told NewsChannel 3 that her office will push for the death penalty in the case.

Bower says Brown's daughter is also an officer with the company. Those who knew both them say the two were inseparable. Brown's wife died a couple of years ago.

A memorial fund has been set up by Bower Security in light of Wallace Brown's death -- The Bower Security Victims and Survivors Fund.
