Man arrested for falsely reporting carjacking

A Palm Springs resident was arrested today, after falsely reporting a car-jacking.

20-year-old Ryan Peter Sayad told officers that a Hispanic male waved a gun in his face and stole his 2005 Scion.

After the alleged "victim's" father showed up and the car was found a short distance away with collision damage, Sayad admitted he had crashed his car and made up the car-jacking story to cover it up.

Sayad was arrested for making a false report of a criminal offense and booked into the Palm Springs jail.

He was later released.
