NewsChannel 3 has the latest tonight on a hit-and-run that killed two teenagers in Morongo Valley.

The California Highway Patrol has confirmed that they caught up with the driver at a Laundromat in Canoga Park in the San Fernando Valley near Los Angeles. He's 24-year-old Enrique Hernandez. The CHP tells us that he is not one of the registered owners, but he is the driver and he will be booked in San Bernardino.

This deadly crash happened around three the morning along Highway 62 near Green Trail.

The California Highway Patrol says a minivan slammed into two 16-year-old people, a boy and a girl.

We have learned the identities of the two young victims in this tragedy. They are Tracy Nelson, a 16-year old boy, and Samantha Schattler, a 16-year old girl, both from Morongo Valley.

Police found the gold Toyota minivan that struck and killed Tracy Nelson and Samantha Schattler abandoned on Highway 62 near Desert Hot Springs about eight miles from where the teenagers were hit.

Police also found the girl's body tangled in the rack on the minivan's roof. The boy's body was found at the scene of the collision.

It's an impossibility that the individual didn't know they hit somebody there are body parts inside the vehicle.

Morongo Valley resident Kelly Shattuck was up early this morning driving to help a friend with a flat tire when she saw the gruesome crime scene.

Police believe two people inside the minivan took off after the vehicle was disabled.
A helicopter searched from above for the missing driver and passenger. Police say the minivan is registered to Elijah Gonzalez and Jordan Gonzalez of Canoga Park.

Right now, they're not named as suspects. But police would like to talk to them and whoever was in the minivan.

"If anybody was traveling in the area between three and four, stopped to pick up pedestrians, we want to hear from you," said Officer Tami Low, California Highway Patrol.

Of course, anyone with information in this case is asked to call police. The number for the CHP Morongo Basin Office is 366-3707.
