Moreno Valley security guard found shot to death

MORENO VALLEY - A security guard hired to watch for taggers and vandals was  found shot to death today at an elementary school.

A custodian discovered the body of the 25-year-old guard at about 6:16 a.m.  at Box Hills Elementary School, ABC7 reported.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics were sent to the school at  11900 Athens Drive in Moreno Valley, said Cheri Patterson, with the fire  department. The victim's identity was not released. 

The Moreno Valley School District hired a security firm to patrol the  school following several incidents involving vandals and taggers, ABC7 said.

School district officials declined to comment.

KCAL 9 reported that the victim worked a "long shift" from 3 p.m. Sunday  until 6 a.m. today

The victim was found near his vehicle, Sheriff's Sgt. Earl Quinata told  KCAL.

The victim's brother, Atatt Paschal, told ABC7 the victim was shot once,  but he did not have further details. The victim was reportedly not armed.

The school was closed for the summer.
