State investigators order Disneyland to better train workers after riderless crash

(Anaheim-AP) -- State investigators are ordering Disneyland to further train workers after a minor crash of two unoccupied trains on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Yesterday's action marks the second time in five months the state Department of Occupational Safety and Health has ordered Disneyland to retrain ride operators.

The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened last month after a September derailment that killed 22-year-old Marcelo Torres and injured 10 others.

State officials concluded after a three-month investigation that faulty maintenance caused that collision.

A Disneyland spokesman says Saturday's accident happened when one train ran into the back of another during a routine "reset" operation. He says a review showed some operating procedures were not followed but the employees have been retrained.

Disneyland was not required to report the crash because no one was injured. But an undisclosed source complained to state officials Sunday -- prompting the investigation.
