CALEXICO - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a convicted sex offender east of Calexico, this week.
Border Patrol agents arrested the Mexican national after he crossed illegally into the United States on Tuesday.
During processing, record checks revealed he was convicted of sex with a minor three years younger. He had been sentenced to 16 months in prison for the offense.
The subject will be prosecuted for Re-Entry after Deportation.
Jeffrey A. Calhoon, Chief Patrol Agent of the El Centro Sector Border Patrol, stated "Reducing crime in border communities is one facet of the Border Patrol's National Strategy," he said. "This is a perfect example of the Border Patrol taking one more dangerous criminal off the streets who is a threat to our border communities."
