CATHEDRAL CITY - One person is dead following a crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.

The California Highway Patrol says the vehicle involved crossed four lanes of traffic, hit a fence, and then crashed into a pole.

The crash happened at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say the driver was on the phone at the time with family members, who say he was complaining of chest pain.

It's not known if he swerved off the road because of the chest pain, or because of something else.
