NORTH PALM SPRINGS - Firefighters have extinguished a fire that engulfed a building at an auto tow yard in North Palm Springs. The fire crews spent Tuesday evening putting foam and water on the the smoldering fire and hundreds of tires.
Investigators still don't know how the fire started. CalFire officials first reported the fire at 2:39 a.m. Tuesday in the 19-800 block of Wilson Road. At least eight engines were sent to the scene.
The fire burned hundreds of tires and automotive fluids. Firefighters did not issue a warning concerning the smoke throughout the valley; however, the Riverside County Hazardous Materials Unit and environmental health officals are on the scene.
There were no injuries. The owner of the property did not have insurance. The building is being considered a total loss.
