BEAUMONT - A 54-year-old Yucaipa man was killed when his dune buggy collided with a car that turned in front of him and he was thrown through the windshield, the coroner said Sunday.

The collision took place at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday on Cherry Valley Boulevard in Beaumont, when the driver of a 2009 Toyota sedan apparently turned left in front of a dune buggy at Live Oak Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol in Indio.

Michael Bruce Young, 54, of Yucaipa, was driving a 1966 Volkswagen dune buggy conversion west on Cherry Valley Boulevard when he entered the intersection as the driver of the Toyota made a left turn in front of him, the CHP said.

The Toyota and dune buggy collided, throwing Young through the front windshield, the CHP said. Young died at the scene less about an hour later, the coroner said.

The driver of the Toyota appeared to be uninjured, the CHP spokesperson said.
