CAIRO - An Egyptian police official says at least 25 people are dead after a passenger train slammed into the back of another train outside of Cairo.
The official says at least 55 others were injured in the crash, which destroyed several passenger cars. Emergency personnel were working to extract the dead and wounded from the trains.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Egypt has a poor safety record on its railways, and there are several fatal accidents each year, usually blamed on poorly maintained equipment.
