MORONGO VALLEY - A 21-year-old woman was killed Wednesday night when the vehicle she was driving veered into an opposite lane of traffic and collided with an oncoming truck.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Ashley Watson of Morongo Valley was driving her Honda Civic heading west on Highway 62 around 7:45 p.m.

Watson apparently veered into the eastbound lanes of the highway near Scholl Road. That was when her car collided head-on with the Freightliner truck.

Watson died shortly after the crash. The truck's driver was taken to the Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries.

The 62 was closed for three hours due to a fuel spill from the truck.
