Andre Ethier's homer in 13th inning gives Dodgers 4-2 win over Rockies

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Andre Ethier hit a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the 13th inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 in the opener of a suddenly significant series between NL West teams.

Rockies closer Huston Street wasn't available to pitch, having saved all three victories at Oakland last weekend, so manager Jim Tracy had to scramble for the right combination out of the bullpen.

Joel Peralta (0-1), the sixth Colorado pitcher, began his third inning of work by giving up a single to Casey Blake in the 13th. The next batter was Ethier, who drove the right-hander pitch to right field on a 1-2 count for his team-high 15th homer and 14th at home.

Mark Ellis, Ryan Sweeney homer, A's snap 5-game skid with 7-1 win over Tigers

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Mark Ellis hit a two-run homer in his second game back from a two-month injury absence, and Ryan Sweeney homered and drove in two runs in the Oakland Athletics' 7-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.

Kurt Suzuki had a run-scoring double for the last-place A's, who snapped a 5-game losing streak with a rare 11-hit effort from a club that's last in the AL in batting average, hits, total bases and homers.

Gerald Laird had an RBI double for the AL Central-leading Tigers, who have lost 3 of 4 after a 7-game winning streak.

Detroit's Rick Porcello (8-5) made 1 of the poorest starts of his rookie season, yielding nine hits and five runs while failing to get out of the fifth inning.

Roy Oswalt dominates Padres again, throws 2-hitter for Astros in 3-1 victory

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Roy Oswalt dominated the San Diego Padres again, pitching a two-hitter and retiring his final 18 batters in the Houston Astros' 3-1 victory Monday night.

Ivan Rodriguez homered and Oswalt (4-4) helped himself with two hits at the plate. The right-hander improved to 10-2 with a 2.68 ERA against the Padres in 15 career appearances, including 13 starts. His .833 winning percentage is the highest among active pitchers with at least 10 decisions against San Diego.

It was Oswalt's 17th career complete game and second this season.

His batterymate, Rodriguez, hit his seventh home run, a solo shot to center field off starter Josh Geer (1-3) that tied it 1-all in the fifth inning.

Rivera, Morales hit back-to-back homers in Angels' 6th straight win, 5-2 over stumbling Texas

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Juan Rivera and Kendry Morales hit back-to-back home runs that put Los Angeles ahead and the AL West-leading Angels won their sixth straight game, 5-2 over the struggling Texas Rangers on Monday night.

The first five Angels hitters reached to start the sixth against Vicente Padilla (6-4). After Vladimir Guerrero's leadoff single, Rivera and Morales homered to put Los Angeles up 4-2. Chone Figgins drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.

The Rangers have lost 8 of 11, a slide that cost them the division lead they had held since May 5 - by 5 1/2 games four weeks ago. Los Angeles, which has won 13 of 16 overall, took over first place Saturday and now leads by 2 1/2 games.

Lincecum masterful in 2-hitter for Giants in 10-0 victory over Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Tim Lincecum threw a two-hitter for his third complete game of the season, and Travis Ishikawa homered in the San Francisco Giants' 10-0 rout of the slumping St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

Lincecum (8-2) tied with teammate Matt Cain for the league lead in complete games and his 2.37 ERA is second in the NL after mastering the punchless Cardinals with his third career shutout and fifth career complete game. He needed only 95 pitches to match his career low complete game and finished off the Cardinals in a snappy 2 hours, 6 minutes.

Juan Uribe added a homer in the eighth for the Giants.

Brad Thompson (2-4) took the loss for the Cardinals, who have lost 5 of 6 while scoring three or fewer runs in all of the setbacks.

Santana has no problems in rehab start, could be back in Angels rotation by weekend

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Ervin Santana could be back in the rotation for the Los Angeles Angels next weekend.

Manager Mike Scioscia says the right-hander had no problems during a 45-pitch rehab assignment in the Arizona Summer League on Sunday night.

Scioscia says Santana will throw a bullpen session Wednesday. If that goes well, he could be activated from the 15-day disabled list as early as Friday.

Santana is 1-3 with a 7.47 ERA in six starts. He missed the first six weeks of the season with a sprained ligament in his right elbow and has been out since June 12 due to an inflamed right triceps.
