PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley region for the overnight hours.

The warning takes effect from 11 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m on Friday.

Freezing or near-freezing temperatures were expected to settle in over the valley with a few hours that could see temperatures in the 20s for the coldest locations in the southern end of the Coachella Valley.

Cold temperatures could cause damage to sensitive vegetation and plants, according to the NWS.
